20091112_mlsnphoto_012Hi Everyone,

This was the last photo from flash class last week, we were at Faunbrook Bed and Breakfast in West Chester.  Our ever willing model Isabella posed for us while each of us photographed her.  This photo is flash lit from the side & balanced with the available room light.  Hopefully sometime soon I will have the pleasure of photographing a full session or wedding at Faunbrook...it is such an amazing place to create amazing potraits.

Help Portrait Day Philadelphia PennsylvaniaHi Everyone,

I volunteered for the Help-Portrait event today at Chosen 300 in Philadelphia.  It was an amazing event...I think we photographed about 125 underprivileged people & families for free just to make them smile & make their holiday season a little better.

We had about 6 or 7 indoor photo stations as well as a roaming photographer or two outside.  The photographers also brought refreshments, picture frames & of course laptops & printers so we could provide instant gratification.  That instant gratification was absolutely amazing...I had one guy tell me he hadn't had a picture taken of himself since grade school - now he is in his late 50's.  Another asked for an extra print so he could give one to his Mother and the other to his Grandmother.  My first portrait of the day was a mother and her 3 month old son; he was so cute!  I had also stepped outside at one point to go get some more equipment from my vehicle and I was asked by one of our guests where the outdoor photographer was.  Not hesitating I walked him across the street and took his photo in front of the old church.  Once again he was very grateful and happy I created such a special moment for him.

The day went so quick we all wish it had gone longer & had more to portraits to create.  Today was not about our equipment, our egos, our fees, or selling of our work.  It was about one thing, giving.  Giving portraits, giving love, giving hope, & giving our time to make a few people's Holiday Season a little bit better.

The gallery of photos are of the photographers, not of our subjects.  I had a few minutes here and there to capture a few candids of our group of volunteers.  Those volunteers all seemed to agree that we should be doing this year after year.  I can only hope that Help-Portrait becomes a yearly international phenomenon for one reason.  Giving during the Holidays.

Engagement Portrait PhotographyHi Everyone,
Since I am photographing Jerry & Elise's wedding next week we decided to do engagement portraits too.  It was an early morning session, and while it was a little cold you can't tell by the photos!  We had a fun time did we photographed some different locations.  Can't wait for the wedding this week in Old City Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Wedding PhotographyHi Everyone,
We photographed a wedding at Old St Joseph's Church in Old City Philadelphia a couple of weeks back.  Jerry & Elise make such a great couple...both in person and in photographs!  As you can see Jared photographed them on the carriage ride from the hotel to the church and from the church to the reception.  The evening photos of the Bride and Groom with the great blue sky in the background are beautiful.  Our combination of posed & journalistic styles really shows here and we shoot something different every time.

These photos are going to make an absolutely beautiful album too...I will post it when completed.  I am sure the photo of the two of them looking back while walking away and Elise leaning on the red door are going to be full pages with other photos layered on top.  Can't wait!

Downingtown PA Portrait PhotographerHi Everyone,
One more day of Portrait Flash Class left....it will be at Faunbrook Bed & Breakfast in West Chester PA.  These photos were taken at my favorite location, Springton Manor Farm in Chester County.  We were going over how to use flash in different situations as well as my usual "how to see the light" reminders.  These three photos remind me how much I absolutely love taking portraits & working with people.

The full legnth photo of Isabella has just a touch of flash to fill in her face.  Without the flash it would be too back-lit to work.  Although it is so late in the fall photo season it seill reminds you of the autumn leaves and the cool weather.
